Default Recommendations for an Audio Interface?

Hi all,

now PT 9 is out there are loads of options for Audio Interfaces.

Can anyone recommend any good interfaces for use with a 13' Macbook Pro that have the following:

1) LOW latency

2) Minimum of 4 Audio Inputs (not including SPDIF)

3) USB 2.0

4) or if Firewire, that they can be Chained. (The Prism Orpheus can't be chained to firewire meaning that it can't be used on a 13' or 15' Macbook Pro and thus I have a dilemma)

5) Minimum 96khz 24bit recording

Any help would be appreciated

As stated the Prism Orpheus can't be chained to the Firewire and as the 13' Macbook only has one FW port is can't officially be used as both the Audio HD and Audio Interface will be on the same BUSS. Orpheus won't support it being chained and Avid won't support USB Audio Drives on Macs......

Jazz,

I had my eye on the TC Konnekt 24D for years and finally picked one up on ebay for £100. It's a cool interface because it's not as big as a rack unit but does have ADAT and SPDIF so plenty of room for I/O expansion.

TC have been slammed in recent years for their drivers and think things now have settled down. I have been running the konnekt with Logic on 32 samples and in Peak at 192Khz and i haven't even experienced a dropout, unlike my 002R. It even has some onboard DSP, not for pro tools sadly.

Unfortunately, i think for TC the mud stuck but the price of their units second has plummeted, worth taking advantage of IMHO.

I just added an RME fireface UC, an 18 I/O usb interface with latencies on par with with PCI. It has a solid clock, solid drivers, good AD/DA, sample rates up to 192k, buffer as low as 32 (64 in pt), 8x8 analog, 2 mic pres, ADAT, SPDIF. (2 ADAT @192, 4@96, [email protected]) WC I/O.

Also comes with Total Mix, which runs on DSP provided by the UC, which is a routing/monitoring app which after getting the hang of, is a very powerful tool with many advantages to simply monitoring in pt alone.

.
This is true the drivers where really bad at one point. I believe the development was outsourced and TC then took it back and climbed in and sorted it out. Unfortunately the Konnekt range got bad cred in this time any many users got burnt and remain bitter. The latest drivers are great.
