Default Lacie Rugged Hard Drive

hi, is anyone using the Lacie Rugged Hard Drive 500GB FW800+400 7200 RPM for playback and record with L.E. and H.D. 8.0 and up? I am trying to find out if it uses the Oxford 911/912/924 chipset interface, as required by P.T.

Otherwise, can anyone recommend an external hard drive that is 500GB or more, small and doesn't require an external power supply (bus powered)?? I mean, one that will playback and record on LE and HD 8.0 and up?

I am using macs 10.5.8

thanks!

OWC has some very nice 2.5" firewire drives and you can get them with a 7200 rpm drive installed, which should be perfect for what you need. Check this one http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other.../MS4U7500GB16/

I've had 4 LaCie external hard drives and ALL of them have eventually overheated and crashed my drives... I bought 3 inititally a long time ago, then decided to give them one more shot on the last one, but no more LaCie for me... They aren't ventilated well and I am guessing the metal enclosure doesn't help matters... I don't know if the one you are looking at has a metal enclosure, but I've not had good luck with this brand.

I've never heard of OWC before... it is tempting because they cost half the price of Lacie, but are they reliable?

Probably the most popular FW drive on the DUC.
