Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
and if you can't, can anyone tell me of any way to get a file out of PT at half speed (I don't have the ability to play back at half speed and then record the playback externally)
any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks. |

Re: Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
Well, you could bounce it as a stereo file, then start a new PT session, bring in the file, and mess w/ it there.
Or, if you have a 2-track editor like Sound Forge or something like that, then you could use that on the bounced file. |

Re: Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
I don't believe you can Bounce at half speed, but you can play or record at half speed. For half speed play, just Shift/Spacebar. To record at half speed, Ctl/Shift/Spacebar.
So this probably won't help your situation too much.

Re: Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
Create a new stereo track and set its inputs to 2 unused busses.. instead of using a stereo buss for your mix.. assign to those same 2 busses as the new track. Arm the new track and go into half speed play (shift+spacebar) and record to the new track.

Re: Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
won't you be recording at half speed as well (thus bringing it back to normal speed during regular playback)? --or am I missing something?

You are indeed correct.. I just tried it here... I was under the impression it would work like on a TDM system, where if I VSO the track and record - it would maintain the sample rate change. A work around is to record or bounce the file down.. then use a utility to change the header sample rate externally to half the sample rate of the original sound file, then import it back into Pro Tools. Sorry. Rail

Re: Can you bounce to disk at half speed?
Well, like a fool, I tried it before re-reading this thread... too bad...same speed as before.
One thing I have done regarding half speed in PT, is to record say simple, long guitar notes while the rest of the mix is at half speed. So, it's simply the 'chipmunk' way, but it can bring very nice results, rather like a Mandolin/Strat sound. But, the simpler it's played, the better.
