6104 Error
Error -6104: "CPU usage is holding off USB audio. Remove some plug-ins, delete some tracks, or increase the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine dialog"
I repeatedly get this error, sometimes after only 1 min of recording, on brand new PT sessions with 2 tracks, no plugins, and a buffer size of 1024 samps. My playback engine is set to MBox (not Pro Tools Aggregate i/o). I receive this error, despite Pro Tools' System Usage window indicating that CPU usage never goes above 4%, and Memory never exceeding 20%. I know this is a common problem, and the general consensus is that it's the result of a workstation config. Please see my signature for my exact specs. I've followed all of Avid's optimization steps listed here, with no success (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/t.../Optimize-10-9). This machine is brand new, running fresh OSX and ProTools installs. I've received the error while using multiple target drives. My latest upgrade is a brand new LaCie SSD drive, connected via Thunderbolt. Because the error mentions USB audio, I'm assuming my Thunderbolt drive isn't to blame. I've read rumors that perhaps the USB3 ports are to blame; so I've also tested this by using a USB2 hub (http://www.iogear.com/product/GUH285/) between my USB3 port and my MBOX and iLok. This makes no difference. I've reinstalled MBox drivers several times. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions? Thanks! -B

Re: 6104 Error
Update: I have substituted a powered USB hub (http://www.dynexproducts.com/product...DX-U27H41.html) and tested extensively. I still get excessively get this error.
I've found so many references to this issue (on this site and others) that I'm beginning to think I'm crazy for not having seen any sort of official Avid statement. Am I overlooking a resource anyone knows of?

Re: 6104 Error
Not even 10 minutes later I found this link (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ters#computers) which says that my macbookpro isn't an approved workstation.

Re: 6104 Error
Equally disapointed that I didn't see this compatibility issue before purchasing. I am unable to perform any record/playback functions using MBox. Constant 6104 errors. Should change interface to resolve? Has anyone resolved this issue please?
(here is compatability issue: Preliminary testing has shown that USB audio interfaces (Fast Track Solo, Fast Track Duo, Avid Mbox, Eleven Rack) may experience issues on 2013 "Haswell" MacBook Pros at this time, as performance can be hindered by random AAE -6101 and -6104 errors. chris Mac Book Pro late 2013 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 OS X 10.9.2 Pro Tools 11.1.3.325 Mbox 4x4 |
