Avid Pre remote control from Pro Tools

I’m currently on a PT 11.3 HD Native setup on a PC (Windows 7) with an Omni as audio interface. Everything currently seems to work well. From time to time I fantasize about getting more mic inputs. The Avid Pre interests me but I don’t understand how the Pre supports remote control (via MIDI?) through Pro Tools. Is there a user interface in PT HD? Does it have to be set up through Setup-> IO menu option?

I’m interested in how to control an Avid Pre remotely via the PC. Can it be made to work on an HD Native system?

As far as I can tell, the Omni does not do MIDI. But I have an Mbox 3 which does have a MIDI interface. Would this be of use?

I'm a bit over my head on this issue. If someone with some experience could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

yes, the Pre is controlled via MIDI, you set it up under Peripherals, and show the Pre controls in the Mix and/or Edit window

I don't know if the mBox's Midi will work with the HD system in play, you may need a dedicated Midi interface (the low end MOTO is my recommendation if the mBox doesn't work)

with the OMNI only have 8 inputs active your not gaining a lot with the Pre
