Default AVB and Dante

We are owning a SC48 Console and are quite happy with it, but as we use it in an Theater environment more flexibility in connectivity would be nice.

My thought is: it would be nice to be able to connect the mixer with the Ethernet Snake Card which is said to use the Protocol AVB.

The next thing ist that AVB is said to be AES 67 compliant. As Dante is officially AES 67 compatible since a few days
My question is if someone has already tested, or knows if a SC48 Console fitted with a Ethernet Card does talk to a Dante Environment (with the long way round AES 67)

And If not does Avid do something about that or are we as user of the "old" systems not able to use the new networking technologies?

Thank you for your Input and your answers

Peter

The final AVB standard is newer than AES 67 and includes video. It makes sense for Pro Tools and Media Composer to use the same networking standard.

New macs support it natively. I'm pretty sure there are AVB adapters to and from Dante and AES 67.

Specifically to SC48 Ethernet card, it uses a flavor of AVB but implemented in a point to point topology. (These AVB streams/entities can't be discovered and connected for network distribution. This is different on S3L and S6L products. You are right that Dante is now claiming AES67 interoperability. That said the last step is up to the manufacturers to provide the updated firmware to the general public. Some "plug fest" testing this happened just recently at AES. ... That said, I don't know of any available AVB / AES interoperability available yet...

If nothing else, converting to MADI will get you there. I'd look for the next NAB show to offer a flood of AVB because it's aimed at broadcasters.

Agreed^^^, and since S6L uses AVB on Windows Embedded, it should be a short trip to make the S3 AVB work on a PC(fingers crossed anyway)

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see new Pro Tools HD hardware that is all connected with AVB.

@Albee1952 Actually both S3L-X and S6L systems are based around Windows Embedded. Currently there is just no qualified PC setup for use with those right now with AVID. AVB has first to do with an specific chipset supporting it on your PC (Which can be achieved buy buying the PCI-E card for example) . The second step is in the actual driver (virtual sound card) and a company called Audio Science has this now
