Default Laptop/Mbox clicking issue..

Hello,
I am running a Dell Inspiron 5150 with Mbox and P.T. 5.3.3LE. When I use 3rd party software i.e. Cubase VST 5.1, I get an audible clicking noise that takes place about every 30 seconds. I the audio playing through the Mbox actually pauses when this click takes place as well. I sounds like a short burst of digital distortion or pink noise. It's actually quite loud and thus painful when using headphones! I have read that you cannot have both the Wave Driver and ASIO driver installed on your system and think that since I do, this may be the problem. When I unistall the ASIO driver, I can no longer use Cubase as it does not recognize the Mbox anymore. Should I re-install the ASIO driver and unistall the Wave Driver or will that then mean that Windows applications will not be able to utilize the o/p's of the Mbox? I have over a gig of ram and I know that technically, my computer's abilities should not be a factor. I also have the latest Windows XP drivers installed. Can security software be an issue in this respect? Please let me know if you have any ideas!
