Default Elastic Audio Problem

I am using elastic audio on a very small section of a clip. I am literally moving one note..nothing else is moving but the one note, I have holding markers either side, but the whole clip is being affected sound wise. Any Advice? Thanks

Cut it first. In Waveform view, select the region one note before through one note after. Separate it into a new region. Switch to Warp view and move the start of the note. There's a key short cut to do that without moving the ends but I don't know what platform you're on.

Sometimes, if I need to EA a small area, I will add a blank audio track below the track in question and copy the region to the blank track, with a few extra bars at each end. When EA does its analysis, its way faster on a small region. Then I can adjust without worrying about audio outside the area I am working. Once I commit, I will copy/paste back to the original track.

Oh, that's right. Same for both platforms. I never know what my fingers do unless I'm in front of a system where I can watch them do it!

It's not really a problem. Elastic Audio affects whatever region you use it on. If you use it on a whole-track region, it will, of course, affect the whole region. That's what it's designed to do.

Well, there are actual issues with EA. I have trouble using it with any stereo source (or multi-tracked source in general, i.e. drums) because it heavily alters phase relationship.

It's pretty noticeable on any source, but is absolutely undeniable on Bass tracks. If you have say, BassDI and BassMic tracks working together, and you make some edits in elastic audio, you will see how the phase relationship just falls apart - sometimes on the entire track (edits or not).

I'm not necessarily complaining, because I know the nature of time and pitch editing. It's a really tricky area. But it still isn't fair to say that it's not really a problem, because it is.

On the other hand, if they called it elastic phasing, it would be in fact working correctly. And we could all use it for creative FX instead of editing :)

But the problem you mention had not yet been brought up in this thread, so obviously I wasn't talking about that! I never said EA has no problems, only that the issue under discussion is the way it's designed to work. Whatever region you edit will be affected. So limit edits to the areas you want to affect by separating them out first.

I believe that is indeed the problem I mentioned. If you mess with the phases of something, it is going to sound different. We aren't talking about complete 180* phase flips here - it's not consistent, and that's why we can hear it.

I mentioned that I have trouble with it on stereo sources, and that's because it phases out over the stereo field, but even with one instrument, it is changing the sound (which is undesired but sometimes livable if it's a mono source).
