Default Link SOLO and Edit Selection, You Can't ? PLEASE ADD

i can't believe Pro Tools does not have this option,
simply choose, or focus on any track, or region in track, and the track automatically goes to solo mode "X-OR"

i constantly edit narration on different tracks, stacked, alternate between tracks
and having to constantly Shift+S, every time i edit another track is not practical,

AVID, can you PLEASE add this simple feature?

i do believe Logic has this option!

and for those that think this isn't necessary for your workflow, or think it's no big deal to use shortcut,. fine, that's cool,
all you would have to do is not use that option, just as i don't use and ignore. AFL/PFL Solo modes..

i do this Shift+S 100's of times daily, wish i didn't have to

You make a group by selecting all tracks you need to solo, then click on CMD+G(mac), now everytime you hit Shift+S, all tracks in that group will be soloed. You can create many different groups with different track combinations.

tope, thx, but

i'm not interested in groups at all
i am simply wanting to let's say edit 20 tracks with different narrators, INDIVIDUALLY.
and jump freely between any and all tracks, without having to use any shortcuts, modifiers etc.,
and as i jump between tracks, click anywhere on that "other" track, it auto-solos it!!

This is more adequately described as "solo follows track selection."
Pretty much all the other DAWs have it.
Pro Tools does not.

This has nothing to do with groups. It just means when having a track soloed, when you go to another track, the newly focused track is now soloed (and the previous un-soloed X-OR)

This isn't only helpful in narration. It's helpful for going through stacks of instrument recordings. And also helpful for MIDI/Instruments.

(And, yes, this is a feature that's been asked about for over a decade.)

yes "link" or "follows", same idea.

thanks BScout,
yes useful in A-B situations, stacks, etc,

i am glad i'm not the only one who needs this
many times, complex & seldom used features are added,
and the simple & necessary features are neglected

Avid, are you listening?
Can you please consider adding this "simple" feature ?

i think it's LONG overdue...

Well I could see that for that very specific situation that option would indeed be quite nice.

But playing the devil's advocate and honestly not trying to be dismissive, your post got me curios about the perception of time involved vs the reality of actual cumulative time involved ?

So How long in fractions of seconds does it actually take to key in Shift -S ? If the standard verbal count of One One Thousand is marginally accurate for a second ? Would then .25 of a second be a reasonable guess ?

If so then .25 of second,,, times 173 = 43.25 seconds so about 2/3 rds of minute in 2 hours of work .... So aprox 4 minutes in 8 hours of work

Don't discount the repetitive stress on the hand!

Follow Solo is indeed a pretty standard feature we're missing. There was another thread about it recently.

The point is it is terrible workflow.
Soloing through tracks to check them is a standard procedure. Dare I say it's the actual meaning of "auditioning" tracks or parts. When I get a new session delivered, I often have to go through all the sounds in it before starting to mix (because people are terrible at naming.) As do mix assistants who need to group things.

yes, it's not so much the time it takes,
it's all about streamlining & simplifying things, basic things like solo'ing tracks
not a big deal for the occasional personal that solo's but big deal for others who solo ALOT

this has so many uses, for me editing narration, many tracks,
for others, may be tons of vocals, on different tracks,
for others auditioning,
maybe. midi tracks as well,

and yes repetitive stress. ever hear of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

it's a simple request, which i really hope Avid implements, !!!
