ProT ools is not opening

Hey all,

Im running Pro Tools 12.5.2 on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with Catalina 10.15.3. Since upgrading to Catalina, Pro Tools just does not load. And by load I mean I don't even see a splash screen. The icon just bounces up and down then after a minute or so it says "not responding". I've tried downloading some older versions like 11.3.2 & 12.4.0, I've tried wiping all the pro tools folders off the computer with no avail. It's been a really annoying process and I hope someone can help me out. Thanks guys.

Pro Tools 12 is not supported on Catalina.

Your options are to upgrade Pro Tools to a supported version or restore your Mac from a backup, or if you don't have one then a reinstall of a supported macOS version and all your apps.

And sounds like you did a major in-situ upgrade of macOS, that's not a great idea with Pro Tools systems. It's better to do full clean macOS installs for major upgrades. So even if upgrading to a new Pro Tools version you might want to do a clean Catalina install.

So I imagine in order to get Pro Tools to run on Catalina I need Pro Tools 2020.5?

Depends on the version of Catalina - check the chart in the link Darryl provided above.

That is what I would be on... on Catalina 10.15.5/6. Be careful if you don't have a current license plan... and don't want to switch to a subscription then you need to find a dealer (not Avid directly) who can sell you a license plan reinstatement. Do not screw yourself here, find a good dealer and talk to a sales rep to help you buy the correct reinstatement.

My plan would have run out years ago, any idea who or where I can find someone to sell me a reinstatement plan?

In Australia, no. You can Google for dealers there and see if they even understand the question.

Just be sure you are buying "reinstatement" code, not "renewal" code.
