Kip,
Start with the A7V333-X motherboard and get the XP1800 or whatever you can afford. Stick with 512MB of DDR PC2100 ram. YOu should be able to configure a one drive system for close to 500.00. Go through my current list and exclude the Enermax PSU since that case already has a good PSU included. YOu should be able to get an ATI video card for under 50.00. I'd stick with the WD 8MB cache drives for a one drive system. Comes in 40GB, 80 and 120. Good luck and let me know how you come out.

Hi,
go to www.techtv.com
They just built a $500 gaming PC that they say will play any game on the market. It's not too much of a stretch to compare audio and gaming for firepower.

Maybe you can buy a secondhand pc with monitor and keyboard and mouse and case and powersupply and cdrom and etc... , and then throw in a new mobo, memory and HD.

Default budget system - $500 or less

I am looking to build a budget PC system for running Protools LE. (building another system for another location, no need for bells and whistles)

I'm thinking in terms of an Athlon machine running a CPU bewtween 950MHz and 1.2 GHz, 512 ram, 60 gig audio drive, 10 gig system drive, cdrw, floppy drive, standard case, etc. nothing special, just a budget machine. i'm pretty sure it can be done for $500 or less. any suggestions on components to achieve this task?
