Default My G5 has become really noisy

What rpm on the fans are normal on an average session with a few VI's?
Using Istat mine are most of the time around 3000 rpm.
G5 dual 2.5 (liquid cooled)

Just wondering...

try changing the processor to Reduced in the Energy Saver System Pref.

While it's not ideal, it should quiet it down.

Pull the side cover off, and verify no coolant leak first.

My bet is that the G5 is being taxed to such a degree that its running hot enough to rev up the fans. Time for a new machine.

Thanks all

No leaking yet.
I'm afraid she's dying (very slow).
Hopefully she will last until digi shows their new HD system in january.
Wishful thinking maybe
I wont invest in current PCIe cards.

BTW
what rpm do your fans have under a little stress?

I had one of these systems and while there was no visible signs of leakage, that's exactly what had happened...

Do yourself a favor and don't have it repaired.... get a new one.

Sounds like you need a processor/fan calibration. I had my G5 done it's quiet now

Or.......you could try this....

Take the side panel off and the clear plastic bit. Pull out the two fans in front of the radiator grill (they just pull up together on a caddy) and check that the radiator grill isn't choked up with fluff or dust. If it is, whip out your hoover and give a good clean (use a paint brush to help shift any stubborn bits) This is exactly what happened to my G5dual2.5 and since then she's been as good as gold!!

Yes, definitely open up and check for dust - I had similar problem and was shocked about the amount of dust in there - in fact, it wound up clogging the fan on my video card and fried it!
