Default Best stereo mics and outdoor mics

Hi

I have tried the search but nothing is coming up, so sorry if this is an old question.
I am after recommendations for matched stereo mics for getting acoustic guitar/piano/
percussion.

Also I have to do location recording . ie. recording the sound of waves, birds tweeting etc.
What is best for that?

Not got a massive budget so only really interested in the sub £800 category.

thanks
Sam

For that price, your best bet would be a matched pair of Oktava MK-012. They're like the "poor-man's Schoeps" and come with omni, cardioid, and hyper capsules.

For the outdoor nature recordings, use the omni capsules in a spaced A-B stereo configuration.

For your budget, You could get a matched pair of shure KSM 137 's for the stereo recording and have enough left over for a sennheiser MKH 416, which will be excellent for your outdoor recording.
???HUH??? An MKH416 by itself retails for £700!

I have one and they're great for many things, but not for nature recording. It's a mono shotgun mic best suited for recording dialogue, ADR, foley, and mono effects. Better to use a stereo pair for nature/ ambience recording.

I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear, but I would rather save my money for two Schoeps CMC-6 + MK6 (switchable cardio, omni, eight capsule) and not go for a mid-price mic. Trust me, It's the only mic you'll ever need for good acoustic instrument recordings! (Always my first pick for acoustic guitar). If you have two of them, you'll be able to make excellent A-B, XY or MS recordings. I've used them for nature recordings too (in omni mode with windscreen), and they sound awesome.
