Anyone own a DragonFly?
Im debating wether to buy one or not. I've heard about it alot and it looks cool but, I would like some feed back from some one that has used one or is using one, before I dive in to it.
How good are they? What type of application is it used for the most? Is it worth the price? |

Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
weelll, they are not my favourite pets, although they are beautiful.
I use to own a lovely one which I called "Evinrude". Unfortunately they only live for about 15 days. And besides, you get more affection from a cat. Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
The B.L.U.E. dragonfly. It's not a bad mic.
What are you using it for? If you're using it for vox only, I would go for a TLM 103 instead. If you plan on using this purchase being more versatile, go with the blue. Recap: TLM 103 for voice mostly Dragonfly if it's needed for a lot more than voice. Hope my opinion of the blue vs the neumann helps, as they are nearly identical in price.

Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
He's talking about one of these
http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/feb02/a...edragonfly.asp I used a friends a while back. They are not flat or neutral sounding mics. They have a very dramatic midrange thing going on, which makes them great for open sounding, mid and lower register vocals. They have a sound particular to them. If you need "that" sound, they are great. But if you are looking for a multi-purpose mic, I would look elsewhere. That's my take on it. Do with it what you will. Mitch |

Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
I've got the Dragonfly Deluxe http://www.bluemic.com/images_produc...ly_matched.htm
For me it records acoustic guitar magnificently. But I'm also going through a Groove Tube VIPRE preamp. I know it's a lot of money. To me it's worth it but I strongly suggest finding a way to try it out in the recording studio where you will be using it before spending that kind of money. Good luck... |

Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
From what I could find about this mic when I had my obsession with blue mic's for about a week(as long as most of my obsessions go with gear) This mic was sapposed to be the mic for guitar. They also said that with some creative possitioning they could find several more uses for it.

Re: Anyone own a DragonFly?
If it's in or close to your price range, also check out the Blueberry. I preferred that one to the Kiwi for vocals and instruments. It has a bit warmer tone, and a nice presence boost.
Any Blue mic is gonna be really good, but they all just have a slightly different color. According to Blue's rep's: if your primary use is to be for vocals, you may be happier with the Baby Bottle (unless you can afford the more top end models), but for more versatility, the Dragonfly may be your choice. Hope this helps. |
