Default 9600 TDM w/UDMA Drives?

After doing countless searches of DUC and looking at the compatability requirements can't quite seem to find the answer. Would a drive such as the IBM deskstar ultra 100 ATA 75GXP 7200rpm work with one of the Ultra 66 cards in this machine?

Now I just installed one in my G4/Mix/PT5.01 system at work and it is running great. Mind you we don't need the high track counts for radio. 12-24 is probably the most we ever use. The documents didn't make it real clear whether this was directed toward just the Apple G3/G4 systems or with a card such as the PowerMax or Sonnet controllers.

thanks
Bill

I don`t know about the G3 ,but the G4 will
work with either system bus, card or both.
I have 2 45 IBMs on the promax card and a
20 WD slaved on the system bus..So far
doing around 40 trks with edits (med.density)
with not even 1 hiccup!

Yeah I know Eric it works great on the G4 But the 9600 would be nice with the ProMax.
I am just so impressed with this IBM drive and the read/write blow the pants off the Atto/Atlas IV Ultra 2 setup I have. For comparing drives 1 to 1 without Raid my love of scsi is over for now. Steve Brent an answer?

MacDaddy,
-Thanks for bringing this to our attention for this is confusing. I will try and get the compato docs updated:

-the ATA/IDE support section pertains to all Macs (Beige G3 or later) which include a built-in ATA bus (i.e. we do not support any ATA/IDE controller cards with Macs only equipped with SCSI).

-Although you are free to try an ATA controller card, I cannot speculate as to what type of performance you may get (aside from any possible -6042 errors).

Brent

Thanks Brent I appreciate your quick response as always.
I'm considering getting the promax card and the IBM drive for home, so i may bring in and take downtown to my peers machine and we can give it a shot.

What is error 6042? Was not in my copy of the answerbase.

Thanks
Bill

-6042 is the infamous "PCI Bus to Busy" error and is caused by hardware that hogs too much PCI bandwidth. Very common when using dual monitor configurations and unsupported SCSI cards.

-You can search for this error on the new AnswerBase online at:

Thanks Brent, I passed on to my fellow coworkers at the other 3 stations using PT. That is a great idea having online! Now if they run into a conflict they won't have to bug me so much!
