Hi Taylor,

all makes more sense now.

I don´t do lay-backs so I have my digital RTW connected to 3 dedicated AES outs of my digital console, which is also mainly used as a patch-board/router. I can then freely chose what I monitor. Of course a monitor controller with meter-out would me most elegant because what ever you hear is metered, be it "PEC" or "DIR" in your case.

Frank.

I don't see a meter out on the Grace. I don't know the unit, but, maybe one of the other outputs would work if they work simultaneously. I'd put in a call to Grace.

I have the Avocet 5.1 setup and a Martin Sound MultiMax. Both have meter outs.

Another option to consider is the Neyrinck Vmon. It would be cheaper than a Grace.

Thanks again! (again)

Yeah - I took a look at the Grace site again last night - you're right - it's worth a call. They have an aes direct out option for the 906 but I can' t tell if it defeats the AES input to the device (uses the same connector) - I'll check with Grace and post the results if anyone wants to hear them. Will also take a look at Crane Song and Martinsound. Also would like to look at Dangerous Music to see if any of their option boxes would give that capability to the Monitor ST/SR (I thought they were all analog).

Isn't Neyrink Vmon a monitoring solution that only works within Pro Tools. The reason I ask is because I run multiple systems in my suite (PT, Media Composer, After Effects) on separate computers - all of which might be live on any given session. I need a monitoring/metering solution which can address the outputs of all of them simultaneously. That's why I have gone the route of a small console as a router and a monitor controller.

I just talked to Doug Wood at Grace Designs (real nice guy by the way) and he told the that the AES Loop through option for the m906 was designed exactly for digital metering. Basically whatever digital signal feeds the 906 is looped out to the meters for monitoring. As long as everything is calibrated correctly, you are metering whatever you listen too...cool. Plus adding the extra digital outputs uses extra connections on the DB25 digital connector (no inputs lost) and only costs $400.

Well there you go then.

And, yes, you have it correct about the Neyrinck.

No one ever talks about RME's Digicheck. Best meters on the planet.

Never shy of a gander at any new solutions.... Checked RME's website and you need their interface and windoze (rules me out on two counts)

Cheers

Not true. Intel macs also support digicheck. Their interfaces don't cost that much.
