What you can do is check out DSP plugs like reeltape saturation that quite possibly could do something that is musically comparable.

We're in a time of transition where native is close to catching up to the power of dedicated DSP. This puts developers at a major financial risk in developing for any kind of non-native DSP. TDM will be a better choice for some applications today but only probably for a couple more years.
If they can make DeCap work in TDM why can't they make it work in AAX DSP? Of course I believe you about the complexity of the code but the fact that it can be done for TDM seems to imply that it can be done for DSP.

Also, yes, TDM still is the best solution for tracking and mixing as you go. As far as Native catching up in a couple of years, we'll just have to wait and see. It's still a ways off.

My understanding is that TDM has more memory capability but must also be coded in assembler which improves efficiency. Unfortunately that is very labor-intensive compared to using high level languages. Within its limitations, HDX has lower latency but there are limitations.

It comes down to cost and a relatively tiny market compared to what TDM was a decade ago. That could change if people were lining up to pay $1000 a plug-in but most are screaming at being charged more than $100. It would be nice to be able to afford a full symphony orchestra on our recordings too!

bump to an old thread

and a comment that SPL IRON plugin is AAX-DSP, as an example of DSP plugins still coming from a few companies.

delay : McDSP EC300

nice DSP Delay , only missing Reverse Delay ..
but never seen any DSP Delay with reverse Delay ,
Reverse modes seem problematic on HDX because Buffer/Memory needs

reverb : AudioEase Indoor
a must have for Post , also very usable on Music

EQ : Equality
Very flexible and nice sounding , with RT analyzer
