Unhappy Enable Phantom Power on 96 i/o and 7.4HD

I have an analog 96 i/o interface with a Mac G5 OSx, and I can't seem to use my condenser microphone successfully.

I'm used to locating a +48v switch on my old Digi002 rack, but I don't see one on the 96 i/o.

Do I enable phantom power in my 7.4HD software somewhere, or do I need additional hardware? I'm not using a mixer, but plugging my cable straight into the TRS input in the back.

the 96 is only a AD/DA converter
you need some mic pres to bring the mics up to line level and supply phantom power if they needed

What hardware is considered standard for this purpose? Something affordable, but excellent none-the-less.

I have a scarlett 8i6 focusrite, but that's just another interface (although it has good preamps).

Focusrite OctoPre Mk II Dynamic would be a good choice. Presonus D8 will also work at a lower price(but I like the OctoPre Dynamic better). If the 96IO has an ADAT lightpipe input, then either of those preamps could connect with lightpipe, and bypass the 96 IO's cheap converters(same as 003).

If you still have the 002 rack....Maybe you could use it.....I have one of the new Mbox Pro modules that I use with pretty good results....It's firewired into another mac but the seperate audio outs go into the 96i inputs....So I'm using the Mbox for the phantom power/XLR input and a trs output....You could do something similiar I imagine with your 002....moon
