Save copy in as 7-9 question
Can anyone tell me why PT10 restricts me to copy files while I am trying to save a copy as 7-9 session?
I found that sometimes it doesn't and most times it does. Can't see a reason why. I am not using interleaved files or anything, just normal standard stuff. cheers |

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
pre v10 Pro Tools only works with mono files and only up to 24 bit depth files
I'm going to assume that you have poly files and/or 32 bit depth audio files

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
Craig, I am aware of all that. But my sessions don't have anything unusual.
Unless PT is converting my stereo tracks into interleaved. I'll have to dig into this because it is crucial for us to have backwards compatibility. |

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
Consider that all fade files must be converted and clip gain must be rendered.

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
Well, I think I got to the bottom of it.
If you create sessions with .wav file type you can't NOT COPY files while saving copy in. If you create sessions with AIFF file type (no interleaved), then you have the option to copy files or not, regardless of fades cause they would be redrawn in PT9 and below. I think this has something to do with the way PT is creating .wav files now, which is discussed in this thread. |

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
In my experience you CAN save a session copy in PT 7-9 format without PT10 copying all Audio Files (we always use wav files for PT sessions, never aiff), but I regularly see PT copying everything and suspect that once you have one file in PT10 that is not compatible with PT7-9, being it interleaved or something else, than PT copies all Audio Files for PT7-9
For intercompatibility between PT10 and PT7-9 it's a bit of a pain. We have been using a mix of both PT10 and PT9 versions the last few months while slowly transitioning to everything PT10 and I want to be working on PT10 only as soon as possible for only this reason. Even when you force PT10 into using split files, it will still leave files interleaved when you use Import audio and import an interleaved file (which I consider a bug and have reported in another thread). From this moment on a save session copy in PT7-9 results in all Audio Files being copied. It would be great to be able to work in PT10 in PT9 Audio File compatible conditions, avoiding this. So "not using interleaved" should be doing just that for recording, importing, everything... Greetings, Thierry

I am on Lion 10.7.2 HD3. If I create a blank session with .wav file type, 16bit, 48khz, create a single mono track, record for a few seconds and try save copy in, copy files is clicked on and grayed out so I can't choose not to. So, no stereo files or fades whatsoever. |

Re: Save copy in as 7-9 question
It's a bug.
If you are recording in version 10 and then try to save copy in 7->9, the audio files check box will automatically be selected and grayed out, forcing you to copy all audio files. This happens even if clip gain, interleaved stereo, etc., have not been used. The workaround... Close the session, then open it again without doing any new recording. Now, when you try to save copy in 7->9, the audio files check box will not be selected and you can save the session file alone. |
