Default Shud i upgrade to Panther now?

Hi people,

I just got a G5 recently and planning to use it with 002 rack. At this moment I'm waiting for the support from digi for G5. The OS that came with my G5 is the 10.2.7, now I've just bought panther, shud I upgrade it or not?

Since you can't use your G5 with PT at the moment it really wouldn't hurt for you to go ahead and install Panther. If you have any firewire hard drives you might want to wait though because there have been reports from people using firewire drives on Panther that the data became damaged and they couldn't recover the drives. Expose rocks though, you have to check that out whenever you install Panther.

OH WELL!! I did install it anyway! Hehe Can't wait anymore, plus I don't have any firewire Harddrive yet, only usb. Plus the 002 rack is not even hooked up yet, still waiting for the update from DIGI. Fingers crossed hoped everythings ok.

Good luck with everything when Digi releases the updates in a few weeks. Be sure to let us know how it all works out. Go check out Expose now since you installed it already. It is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. It used to be such a pain to get something off of the desktop or switch to another app but now it is soooo fast.

I'm using Panther on a G4 and loving it!

Also running PTLE 6.1.2

How? Before installing Panther, I used Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable second drive with 10.2.8 and PTLE 6.1.2. All my other stuff, including Final Cut Pro, PhotoShop CS, Live 3.0 and Reason runs great off 10.3. When I absoulutely need PTLE, I boot into Jaguar and run it.

A bit of a pain, but the speed and useability advantage of 10.3 for every other major software I own EXCEPT for PTLE was too good to just wait around for Digi who knows how long?

Same here... Reboot is lightning fast, so is networking, and many other behind the scene features. 10.3 is the best update yet.

Can you post some detailed instructions on how to do this? I have a new 15" Powerbook and would LOVE to install Panther and still be able to use PT.

Get this Carbon Copy Cloner Follow the easy directions, copy your complete HD to a FW drive. Boot up from that drive ( Sys prefs/startup disk) reformat ( erase internal drive). Use CCC to copy your original HD back to your internal drive. Install panther (Use option to archive and install, to save your settings), sit back and enjoy. When you need to use startup disk to boot from your FW drive to use PT in 10.2.8
