Question Putting Song Name Info Onto Master CD

Hey guys, I was hoping to get a little help with a small problem i cant figure out (what else is new...).

You know how when you pop in a store bought CD into your computer, and it opens up on itunes or whatever program you're using...that it automatically loads all the CD info. The CD name, the artist, the song titles etc. Well i was wondering how I would go about putting that information onto my master CD.
I think it has something to do with some sort of sub codes that need to be inserted? But I'm really unclear on how any of this works.

I hope someone can help me out, I dont even know if it can be done in PT's (I have LE8)...but I sure hope it can. If it cant, can someone tell me what program(s) can do this and how to use it in conjunction with my songs? Thanks!

The information you are referring to, artist, album, etc, is not ususlly on the cd. Instead the cd has a unique code. Applications like itunes look up this code in a database that has the information.

I did this the other week with my band's CD. You have to have a physical copy of the CD in your drive. Then if you open a program like iTunes, it won't find any information, and will ask you to submit it. Then you just edit the info on iTunes like you would any other song, and hit submit. If it doesn't pop up asking you to submit any information, then go to Advanced => Submit CD Track Names. That should work. It takes a day or two for the Gracenote database to update, but it should work.

With my band's CD, the database thought it was some other band's CD, so that was a bit messed. We fixed it though.

Yeah, it was a good idea, and sometimes still works. The problem is, when the code was devised, the people who made the standard had no frickin' idea how many CDs would eventually be on the market. They didn't make it nearly enough digits/characters. Consequently, many codes now refer to multiple CDs, as many as a dozen sometimes. But it's too late now. When your code is the same as other registered ones, iTunes will give you a choice on import of which to use. So it can still kinda sorta work. Kinda sorta.

Hey thanks for all the suggestions.......first to ABT, is the code on ALL cds? I'm burning my master from a blank obviously, and then want to make duplicated, how would i go about linking the code to the CD info...or is this something i have to purchase (sorry hope i dont sound too dumb, just dont know anything about this)

To obiwan177, If i take my CD and load it up thru itunes like you said...put in all the info and subimit it...will it then just recognize the info on that ONE CD, or will it recognize the info to any other duplicated burned from that 1 CD (in this case the master).

Thanks guys!

hey guys, don't forget about cd-text.

it does burn the titles and band onto the cd

so that, in certain newer car cd players, or boomboxes, etc...
(not connected to the interweb)
it will read the data.

'course, it's different from gracenote (itunes)
and your multi thousand $ computer won't recognize it either,
(unless you drag & drop onto toast)

on a mac you can do this through toast or jam...

(it sux one app won't take care of all this...)

b.o.l.

I was going to point out my car does not have iTunes (or a 8 track) and this works. I think that you can do this with CD Architect (PC) and Toast (Mac). If your doing this on a Demo or your own project I don't think the CD database comes into question.

Gosh. I was gonna add some links for further reading. It used to be easier to find info about the Redbook standard online but it seems to have gone missing. All my old bookmarks on it are obsolete.

Well, here's a start:

I believe Bias Peak LE supports CD text, also. Some other nice features, too.

Adaptecs Jam was also great for getting various standards on your Master CD.
