Default Phasing?

I've been looking all over for tutorials on phasing issues and how to correct them. Anybody have some links or general advice?

Thanks!
Mikael

Use your ears. If you hear phasing, move the mic or reverse the polarity.

the best way to begin to understand phasing and what it sounds like and how to work with it is to directly work with it. do some phasing tests with recordings and play the left side out of phase with the right side and play it through a nice set of stereo speakers. mess around with it and then you will have a much better understanding of it.

Thanks guys! But I'm still pretty much clueless. Are there any guides on how to use the phase analyzing displays in plug-ins like Signal Tools and other mastering/analyzing apps.?

Cheers, Mikael

Deep subject..first advice is to Google "audio+phase" "phase scope"..etc,
Let me try a simple breakdown for you;
-two signals arriving at opposite peak values from the same source would be 180 degrees "out of phase". This is a very audible and obvious problem and most likely caused by incorrect wiring somewhere in the system. { mics,speakers, patchbay, outboard gear, etc...}
-minute variation between the two signals's arrival time can be perceived as "phasing" ..you'll hear filtering effects, reduced low end response and such.
The most typical example would be the recording of the same sound source with different microphone distances used, amp and DI signal together or converters/buffers/plugins induced latency in the low millisecond range.
-There are tools, even free plugin types that can display correlation. Hope someone can help with links..And there will be manuals and instruction included.
-Use your ears !

good luck,
a
