Default PT 9 Worth It?

Thinking of upgrading. It doesn't look to me like there is a whole lot of difference for the HD side of things between PT 8 and PT9. I read all the info about it and am still feeling a bit empty. Can someone tell me something really cool about it that would make me want to buy it?

Well, I upgraded and I'm happy for doing it. 3 reasons:

- I can run Protools on my MacBook (I do travel a lot)
- eucon support (2 mcmix here)
- it's the mos stable version of PT since 7.4 for me. Didn't have one single crash in 4 days mixing mid size projects with lots of plugins!!!

The only reason I can think of, at least for most HD owners, is on their non-HD-equipped systems, like laptops, as the previous poster mentioned. So I'll probably buy the HD upgrade, but not because of its utility in my HD rig - it'll go right into my MBPro for location use, where I've been struggling with a DP front end. PT9 would be just dandy now that it's (evidently) capable of running off my 18 I/O Motu hardware (828mkII/2408MkII). Gonna save me a lot of hassle, and will be well worth the $350 it'll cost me, part of which I could probably recoup by selling my MBox2...

The purchase of PT9 HD is inevitable, just not urgent. PT 9.1, 9.2 etc. will most certainly have 'must have' features and then you will get PT9. So in any case, "you pay me now or you pay me later".

I got it now. A few hundred bucks has never been a deal maker if I believe the money will be spent eventually.

PT9 appears to be the most stable HD release in years.

If you are working at 96k, long delay compensation is now twice as long (8191 samples compared to previous 4096) as it was in 8.X. For that feature alone PT9 was a worthwhile purchase for me. Saves a lot of headaches and allows me to get more out of the combination of TDM and RTAS plug-ins.

...just for the fact alone that you basically get a free fully-blown LE software package too makes it worth it. As soon as I installed it on my main studio machine, I installed it on my MacBook Pro, and will probably put in on my iMac for a secondary editing station.

All of this. plus

512 unvoiced tracks.

In post you can now have 1 person do a conform on a 2 man mix in one big session then split it back up. yeah 512 tracks voiced total would be nice but this does help.
