Some much of this wouldbe genre specific.

There are suprises out there though.

Heres one from way out in left field. I was driving at night and an oldies station was playing album sides and played something I hadnt heard in year's.

I was suprised by the mix and the clarity.

The Album?........ Breakfast in America by SuperTramp of all things.

Everbodys going to think I have a exhuast leak........

Dang! JFreak beat me with the Bob Katz link.

I always rated that he had the Geto Boys on that list, the cover photo for their album We can't be stopped has yet to be surpassed in my opinion.

I'm so bored of hearing lame Emo kids whine on about their girl friends dumping them, not these guys - no, Bushwick Bill has lady problems he unsuccessfully tries to blow his brains out, then gets the guys to pose for a photo with his eyeball hanging out.

Beat that my chemical romance !!!

O.K. I'm going to avoid the classics and name a couple of more obscure records :

1. "Spiderland" by Slint (wonderfully recorded allegedly by Steve Albini who also recorded their first album "Tweeze" - Plenty of dynamics from the band and the mix).

2. "Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby" by Girls Against Boys (really warm, dark and laidback production by the ever excellent Ted Nicely, with nice use of compression and distortion. Also an amazingly accurate recording of how the band really sound live).

And also as a more recent - and slightly less obscure record, "Ys" by Joanna Newsome deserves a mention not just for the production and mix (Albini again) but for being a very bold move, especially in the current musical climate, and a great appreciation of how great records used to be made.

Not at all. That's a great sounding record. Supertramp Crime of the Century is another great sounding record.
