Don't forget the 002. At $2200 it is the best value in a Pro Tools system that I have seen. It comes with a TON of plug ins, a built in control surface and two more (and better) mic pre's.

I second that. The 002 is great. It's definately a step upfrom the 001 both in A/D conversion and the mic pres. Plus it looks better and more professional to have that big chunk of gear with moterized faders on your desk rather that a one rack space I/O.

Two Neve 1272 preamps = $2000
Rosetta A/D = $1000
DAC1 D/A converter = $800
Mackie HR 624 monitors = $900
There you have an amazing signal chain working for two channels. Doesn't get much better, oh by the way... that's MY setup!

Mackie D8B $4999 and Protools LE.

You get 72 channels and HUI control of Protools.

Go from your mic or instrument into the Neves. Then from the Neves into the Rosetta A/D converter. The Rosetta goes by way of lightpipe into the card in the computer. Then I go s/pdif from the s/pdif OUT on the digi 001 box into the Benchmark DAC1 for the final conversion. Then XLR cables from the DAC1 into the powered Mackies. What you've done is bypassed the digi 001 box, (the preamps and the converters) with superior components. The sound will blow you away.
