Not so happy anymore.
Do I have this correct ,,, you are/were using one of the two drives in the Crest adaptor as your boot drive and PT is on that drive ?
So I am wondering if the PT difficulty is indicative of the transfer issue you were having moving files between the two drives ?

PT was always on the boot drive, which is blade/drive #1 on the Crest adapter. I had the sessions on the same drive. It crashed. So, I moved sessions to the second SSD on the Crest to see if they would run better from there. Same crashes.

Edited for clarity.

I have erased both ssd drives and am starting over again from scratch.
Got to give it one more chance.

Hummm interesting
So I get PT being on boot drive, the question I am asking is are you using one of the 2 SSD blades/drives on the Crest as your boot drive ?

And I am asking for me, because my boot drive is the SM951 and will remain the boot and PT application drive.
And so I will be using the two different EVOs on the Crest as my PT session storage drive on one of the EVO's and my FCPX projects storage drive one the other EVO. In other words replacing having those sessions and projects on the two HDD as per my system list in my sig line. And hoping I will not have any crash issue with this arrangement

Yes, I am booting from one of the SSD blades/drives. #1 is the one I am using. #2 is also glitchy as a boot drive. Maybe I received faulty 970 evo blade/drives, I can’t check them to see, as Samsung only supports Windows software to check their products.

Can you swap the positions of the 970's? If the problem follows the switch there's your answer - it's the 970. If it stays the same then the problem is with the card. Could be firmware or if there's surface mount parts on the card one of them might be cracked and you'll never see that - take it from someone who's dealt with more than their fair share of cracked surface mounts.

Thank you. I misspoke in my previous post and changed it. I have booted from both 970 evo ssd drives.
I have done as you suggested and both 970s crash. I am pulling this adapter and returning it. I wish someone could recommend an adapter that would run one 970 at 3000. I know I can install one and get it to run at 1500, but 3000 would sure be nice. I have searched everywhere and l can’t find an adapter for one blade only two.

You should grab any single straight (non switched) card and verify both SSDs work.

Not sure if there is a x8 PCIe lane single M/2 adapter card, by the time somebody uses a PCIe Switch on the card it may be the economics and number of lanes on the chipset makes that suboptimal.

I would try swapping the switched card for another identical one and see.

Thanks for posting reports about problems you are seeing on DUC.

And to confirm you have 970 Evo and not the problematic 970 Evo Plus right? The problems withe Plus should have been addressed with a firmware update (always check the firmware is up tp date on any SSD before using them).

Yes, 970 Evo, not the plus.
We must be on the same page, I actually have a single non-switched card arriving tomorrow so I can test to see if the 970s both work the same, although at half the speed. I could swap out the switched adapter for another, but I will see how tomorrow’s test of the 970s goes first.
How do you check if the firmware is up to date though on a Mac?
Samsung magician is Windows only. As is every firmware utility tool that I can find for testing NVMe drives.

Thanks.

Mac System report, drive/firmware version should be listed under NVMExpress. But AFAIK there is no 970 Evo Firmware updates... there is the critical update for the 970 Evo Plus. https://www.samsung.com/semiconducto...ownload/tools/

You are not missing a lot with not having Magician. I'd like it on Mac, if Samsung would pull their head out their asses on how to do and support quality application software. And there are low-level barriers to what they could do on Mac, and just the size of the Mac market for SSD upgrades making it worthwhile... (so no breath holding)
