Default Snow Leopard worth the update?/mac quad

so i have mac pro quadcore 2.6ghz with 7gb of ram and i'm using 10.8 right now. i have a copy of snow leopard but haven't installed it yet. would installing snow leopard make my mac run any faster? i'm kinda asking for the overall experience, with protools and logic 9. what are some of you guys experience with it. should i stay where i'm at or take the plunge and go for it with the protools sl update. i use logic 9 a lot of the time also so anyone know how this fairs?

i've heard overall with the basic system it's faster and smoother with i tunes and most regular programs. i just installed more ram and have a total of 7gb now and my mac seems ok but wondering if moving over i'll see a little bit more improvment especially with my new ram upgrade. my ram is 2x2 in riser 1 and 2 on the top riser total 4gb. 512x2 in 3 and 4 on the top riser total 1gb. lastly 1gbx2 on 1 and 2 of the second riser total 2gb. i hope this config is correct also as that' how i read to do it.

if anyone knows any better please let me know!

Install it on a new HD and try it for yourself... No risk that way

You're going to need to update at some point..

true that... i just wanted to make sure it was compatible with protools 8 and logic 9. i know it boots up in 32bit and you can boot in 64bit but it's not recommended for any audio apps but it would probably be nice for web browsing and itunes watching movies ect.

if it's speed your worried about, the first thing I would do is change out your ram so it's not all different sizes. get a couple of 4 GB Sticks and you'll be better off

well the stock came with 2x512 and the same time i got it i bought 2x1gb and recently went for 2x2gb... for the future i was going to stick with the pairs of 2gb sticks as the 4gb sticks buying two at a time are out of my range to buy at one time. should i even keep in the 2x512 or is this slowing me down?

well doing a bench mark on it i scored a 176.26 using bench mark pro on my overall score. although my graphic card blows big time but i don't play many games. probably get a better score big time with a new one.
the memory was a 144.83 which is about right looking at other macs in my gen.

my system

mac pro quad core 2.6ghz 2x dual core.
ram:7168
model: 1,1
