Question New business model for music?

What is your impression of this idea?

http://www.thepublicrecord.com/

Just somebody running out of ideas, or
harvesting samples, or
WHAT?

There you can download stems and record your ideas and send it back!
If you are lucky you will be named on the final CD, but you give up all your rights!

I think its just a gimmick. But for those few whose tracks are selected, I guess they'll have some sort of braggin' rights. Tommy Lee is my cup of tea, so I'll take a pass.

The modern business model for finding undiscovered artists seems more and more like it's following the american idol business model. Have a contest, then take control of the winners rights as an artist. I call it the "Lets recycle an old band/star's music by having someone young imitate it, then call it new music."

It makes money, no doubt... but it's about as interesting and innovative as reality tv.

I don't know who is going to make money, but I guess it will be Tommy Lee or others that invested in this venture.

Yes, the majority of the people that enter the contest are definitely not included in any profiteering.

Wel if I was in it for the money then its a stupid idea... If I am in it for the bragging rights and free labor for the rich then its a great idea...
