Default Questions

Hello,
It has been a while since I've used ProTools. I recently upgraded from 4.3 to 5.1 LE.
Is there a way not to bounce in real time? If not, is it better to use 4.3?
I read in the Audiomedia III specs. that it uses a 66MHz DSP. When I talked with a Digi rep. he said that the AM III doesn't do any DSP, only TDM systems do that.
Is the only advantage to having the AM III sound quality and I/O?
Finally, I have a Rev. A Beige G3, 375/83MHz 1MB Cache, 256Mb Ram, 20G 7200 RPM ATA/100 IBM HD, 12x8x8x32 Combo Drive and the AM III.
Are there any upgrades that you would recomend for audio and/or faster processing?
Does anyone know where I can find a Rev. C ROM?
Thank you.

Jeffrey

Default Re: Questions

-Due to the increased real-time routing/processing features in Pro Tools LE (Aux Tracks, Hardware Inserts, Master Faders, RTAS plug-ins), Bounce To Disk is now a real-time process.

-Reverting to Pro Tools 4.x and AMIII hardware (or PowerMix) is the only way to get a faster-than-real-time Bounce To Disk.

-The AMIII does in fact contain a DSP chip. Prior to PT LE 5.0 (which now runs off the host CPU), this chip was used by DAE uses load its Playback Engine (similar to the Mix Engine when using Mix Hardware). This was all fine and good except for the fact that this DSP was limited to 8 voices and could not be increased. By switching to a Playback Engine which runs off the host CPU, we are able to acheive 24 track playback.
