Re: Waves Creative Access?
Really funny!
As someone who bought V5 Mercury TDM + Studios Classics and then 'got dropped' and offered the APA doorstop: And now, not given a chance to upgrade from V12 to V14: Offered 2 FREE months and then to pay $25 a month until I die...to own nothing and be happy: I will only refer to this company as "Slaves Plugins" and "Slaves dot com" Pass it on.

Re: Waves Creative Access?
And you've used Mercury for what, 20+ years now? What did you expect? 30, 40?

But their word has been funny always. Remember the ad, "Waves Gold, all the plugins we have and will ever be made"? Probably not. Then it went Platinum, then Horizon, then Mercury, and then they claimed plugins that require extra external licensing will have extra cost. All the time they promised to support every major platform out there, and last I checked Avid DSP (HDX) is a major platform. But no. And now they do this without even giving notice or grace period to existing customers to WUP to latest available. Not that I would have given them any money until they supported AAXDSP but perhaps many would have wanted to. So there you have it. This post may become one of the most quoted ever

Re: Waves Creative Access?
I think the most amazing thing is that they've managed to create something even less popular than WUP +well done!+
The outrage then resulted in a small reversal many years ago, a slightly better deal on what WUP was (like getting back on board after lapses -memory failed here) A quick visit to a couple of audio forums and yep, I think these Waves threads are going one way only... |

Re: Waves Creative Access?
Is Waves v14 aax silicon compatible now? And presumably earlier versions never will be?
This thuggery will hit PT users hardest. Lots in the coming few years would have needed to WUP to migrate to silicon. Now they can't, and there's nothing they can do about it. Somewhat naively I thought they'd give some warning if they ever moved to subs - even Avid did this. And they are AVID. It's like dealing with The Mob.

Re: Waves Creative Access?
As a Waves owner for over 2 decades, Mercury, Abbey Road, etc. I feel not offering one last update plan for owners to get current is an absolute slap in the face to the people that helped build and keep afloat this company. With dropping this news of subscription only today, with no way to purchase an update plan to get current, says they care nothing for loyal customers period. They should have at least sent out a notice for owners to make their own decisions to get 1 last update plan, get current, and go subscription next year. I see the yearly price for subscription is $300, $250 if you're an owner this first year, so around the yearly update plan of give or take $240. Not much of a difference to appease owners.
So for money grubbing out $10 more dollars with no way to update 1 last time, they are losing me and I'm sure quite a few loyal owners as a subscriber in the future. At least Avid saw the error of screwing over perpetual owners and changed the decision and let perpetual continue for now. Hopefully Waves will also see that this type of business practice loses loyal customers and brings negative press for future customers. I will use what I have and find replacement plugs elsewhere in the future. Most new projects will be Waves-free, pretty easy to do nowadays, thank goodness! In addition to my yearly update plan, I was also going to buy the Waves stuff for my Midas32 I got last year to run live but not now, yet another loss of sale. Great decision board room, just saved me some money! |
