I posted this similarly in the Mac forum, but basically, with double dual core PC's rivalling the plugin power of HD Accel7 or 8 systems, there's no more real need for Accel cards, just a Core card to handle the ADC, mix engine, latency and I/O and TDM only plugs, and let the CPU's handle all the rest of the plugins. If you need more hardware I/O, just pick up a used Process card on ebay for $600 or so.
I'll have to agree on that one. That is the route many are taking these days including myself. That is the whole purpose of the "Poor mans HD..." thread. The Quad Opterons are giving us the plugin power equal to 9 Accel cards. Also, there are only 3 plugins that use only the Accel chips and nnot the regular core card chips. I have no need for those three plugins for what I do. And if I want to add more voices and extra I/O I'll grab a used HD process card which can be had for $600-$800 on the used market.

The Hybrid approach with HD1 and a quad Opteron is all you need for music production these days in my opinion.

Yep. Complete garbage. 7 Accel cards are better. HD process card isnt worth it for the poor mans HD1 rig.
