Default should I sell my 001?

Ok, so I'm realizing that right now (as in probably for the next 2 months or maybe longer) I can do everything I need to do with the echo mia soundcard that I bought a while ago along with some kind of software (maybe Cubase, although I think I could probably do ok with Cool Edit2000 for a while, with the multitrack plug in). Mostly what I am using the 001 for right now is learning music of the people that I am working with, loading in their tunes, overdubbing my bass parts and then checking out my playing, arrangments etc. Also I've been recording myself a good bit playing and singing.

So here's my thought. I'm not using the 001 to it's full advantage right now. I could sell it (could I get $700 for it, it's about 4 months old?) and buy a RNP and RNC and put the echo mia back in my computer (it only has one PCI slot, it's a mini computer, a shuttle SS51g). Then I could either just stick with that setup or hold out until the 003 004 or whatever comes out, and reassess my needs then?

My reasoning is that if this new thing is really good I might want to buy it, but at that point I think the value of the 001 will go way down and I won't be able to resell. But if I sell now while its value is still holding, at least I can end up with the RNC and RNP.

My concern is the software? Is there a decent multitrack editing program in the $200 range that would work with the MIA?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Paul

don't get rid of the 001. instead, sell the mia and buy cubase or something. use it with the digi asio driver. it works pretty well.

i think you would be lucky to get $700 for a used 001, even if its only 4 months old. i've seen "new in unopened box" on ebay for $699. i also wouldnt expect there to be a product "new & better" than the 001 in the next two months, but you never know.

but to be honest, i was in a similar situation with an 01v mixer recently. i didnt use it to its full potential, and was concerned the value would be dropping when the new product was released. i decided to sell it, and took about a $700 loss from the price i paid a year ago for it. but i am glad i sold it because i didnt use it.

with that said, do you think you will EVER use the 001 to its full potential? the 001 is a good piece of hardware and pt is great software. but if you dont think you will ever use it, then why keep it? however, if you do plan on using it someday, why take a loss selling a 4 month old 001?

there are a bunch of cheap multi-tracking software programs out there, but i dont think they compare to pt. and as brian stated above, you can use the 001 box with cubase, etc, but you cant use the mia with pt.

personally, (if you keep the 001) i wouldnt sell the mia card either. i have an echo gina card that i really dont use, but i know (someday), i may want it for a second computer to run my other music programs, keeping one computer dedicated to pt.

Just bought mine from ZZounds for $699 and free shipping. B&H Photo sells 'em for $699 also.

I would definitely sell the 001. Guess how much it would be worth if a firewire version came out...

But who knows when the firewire model will come out. Does his PC have firewire? Cubase is great for midi. But nothing compares to PT for Audio. My PT set ups are some of best money I ever spent.

BTW, 4 months or not its used. You may get $450 for it since I've seen them for selling new for $650.

Well...at $450 I guess there isn't any point in selling. I can't even get a RNP for that much money. I kind of wish I had bought a MBOX though. I think it would have been a better bet and saved some money. Whatever. Maybe not though.

To be honest a new firewire version of the 001 isn't really going to be that big of a difference. If your worried about XLR inputs, get a presonus digimax.

Recording in 96 is vastly overrated.
