I should hope so. If you don't, you'll have some pretty nasty aliasing.

Without knowing the details, anectdotes like this are worthless. It's too easy to screw up an A/B test and cause differences - making "the same recording" at 96 and 48 isn't a trivial task.

I can understand Mike's skepticism of Greg's test (though I don't share his helpful and friendly demeanor :P ). There are a lot of possible variants which can turn the results inside out and sideways if they're not checked. Not the least of which is the number, type and quality of LPF's used to roll off over 48k. And about comparing 32 to 48, let's not even go there. Ok?

As masmit pointed out, changes in filtering schemes could drastically improve our piddly 48 thousand samples per second. Why go 96 when we haven't really experienced what 48 is capable of?

Reverbs? Yes, definitely, oversample and process fx at 96k or 128 or whatever floats your boat, then src back to 48. The files shouldn't need to be any bigger than they are already to get the same benefits of faster processing.
