Default Your opinion on this PC:

I am thinking about starting a recording studio
based around the digi 002r and a custom PC.
I am leaning towards a PC because it seems I could most likely get a bigger bang for my buck instead of
buying a new or used mac. (is this true?)
I consulted a friend of mine who builds PCs and this is what he gave me for a list:
CHEIFTEC Server Chasis AX-01SLD $79.99

Coolmax Serial ATA Power Adaptor cable $4.99

VANTECS's STEALTH SF8025L $11.99

Thermalight SKL-800-U (heatsink ONLY) $42.99

2 ANTEC ALL clear 80mm SMARTFAN $29.98

ANTEC ALL Clear 92mm SMARTFAN $15.99
<<five fans in total...Is that common??>>

Western Digital Raptor 36GB SATA WD360GD 10,000rpm $138.00

HITACHI/IMB IC35L120AVV207-1 120GB 7200rpm 8mb cache $107.00

2 CORSIAR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory $257.00

Asus Motherboard for AMD Athon XP/Duron #A7NX8 $140.00

ENERMAX EG465P-VE(FC) 460W $85.99

AMD ATHOLON XP 2500+ "Barton" 333FSB $90.00

ATI OEM RADEON 9000 Atlantis PRO 64mb $67.00

Samsung Model SW-252BRNS 52x24x52 $48.00

Sony DDU1621(DDU1611) 16x DVD ROM $30.99
<<I might consolidate and get a dvdr/cdr combo>>

This PC should cost around $1,200

What do you think?
Is it a good PC?
Any suggestions?
could I buy a mac for $1,200 that would
be more powerful for using protools?

Default Re: Your opinion on this PC:

Looks good to me.
I think a 10k rpm drive as your system drive is overkill though. I don't think it would improve Protools' performance unless you used it as the audio drive, and that makes the 120GIG drive overkill as the system drive.

This whole system is overkill to me. PTLE likes it simple. I answered to your post on the Best System thread.
Good luck,
