Default FCPx and X2Pro

I just tried and AAF export from FCPx into PT 10.2 HD3 on 10.7.4 (no mountains for me till Christmas) and it worked fine.

At the moment it makes embedded AAFs only - but they are working on referenced.

They are also working on handles. At the moment if any part of a file is used - the entire file is carried over in the embedded AAF.

What I quite liked is that it makes tracks called B roll cut away, Narration, Sync Interview Brian, Sync Interview John etc - i.e. the editor is able to to usefully name stuff without getting bogged down in two many tacks on their timeline - but with with we are more comfortable with. It is effortless for them to achieve this and it will speed up importing busy docs by huge amount.

No metadata is yet carried across from the original media, so it wil not be great for in concert footage or for polwavs and drama - but Brent has been across their feature request board.... here's hoping

Onwards and upwards...

Default Re: FCPx and X2Pro

(tips hat)
Yup - I had an editor upgrade to FCPX mid doco project (one of those) and belatedly realised that we had no OMF export. Automatic duck also broke with his FCPX 10.3 update and so we had to use X2Pro.
We had hassles at the time, sent them test files and I sent them some links to things like the digi field recorder workflow guide etc.
They were receptive and seem to be making progress.

Personally I dont like the paradigm of "assigning a role per clip" within FCPX. The editor I was working with seemed to think every clip had to have its role assigned manually, there was no "batch assign" function to basically group "like with like" for export.

The project he exported tried to create an AAF with 270 tracks... hopefully our feedback and ongoing development are fixing these sorts of issues so there is SOME way for people in apples new "pro" paradigm to collaborate with sound post...
