Default Very odd CPU error (link to video)

I am running a 27"iMac, i5, 12gig RAM, ProTools 10, Focusrite Saffire 24 Interface, Lion 10.7.1.

I am having CPU overload issues and have tried every solution offered so far to no avail. (listed below). Here is what is happening:

At intervals of no less than a half hour but sometimes up to several hours, the CPU (native) meter in the system usage window suddenly starts jumping wildly. It flashes full red then back to orange, and jumps erratically from maybe 5% to 60% or so, and this is while parked!!

Heres a video of this phenomenon:

If I attempt playback I get the standard CPU Overload dialog.
I then have to reboot. I have to not only shut down PT, most times I have to restart the computer.

Otherwise, PT10 rocks-love the clip gain, it has saved me literally hours in post production.

The usual solutions that I have tried:

Every possible playback engine configuration involving buffer, number of cores, usage limit percentages, etc.

Removing plugins, even happens with a session having no plugs at all.

Running PT from it's own user account (admin)

trashing prefs.

Anybody ever seen this?
Many thanks in advance for any insights.

Default Re: Very odd CPU error (link to video)solved!!

it was HDD fan control, an app that runs in the background. if I simply check it's preferences the error goes away...for the entire time until reboot. unfortunately I have to use that specific app. at least there's a workaround
