PT 7.4HD License - Can't Activate

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone from AVID can figure this one out for me. I've had an extra 7.4 License (that says Not For Resale) in my iLok account since I purchased it back in probably 2007 or so. I tried to stick it on an iLk today, wanting to use it with an old G5 digital transfer rig, and it says I need to surrender an older version in order to do this?? That shouldn't be...it was a full license that I purchased back in the day, and I should be allowed to use this...

Any idea what might be wrong? Jeffro, can you help at all?

You can't purchase NFR licenses, as it says, nor for resale. Avid to my knowledge never charged money for these, so...

is this a Backup License ?? we used to have these ... i still have HD licenses on my iLok after selling the HD systems .. not sure if they would work or not ..

I didn't purchase this - it was the backup secondary license to our original 7.4 license we bought way back in 2007. It was just never authorized and sat in my iLok account...it should totally still work, this doesn't seem right...

That's exactly what mine looks like John. Why would it be in my account if I can't use it? That seems silly...how can I get this on an iLok and working guys?

Yes it used to be so (pre-PT9) that you got a backup license. These may very well have been renamed to not for sale. Why it asks for license surrender, that I do not know.

What I do know is that Avid didn't take it lightly when people started selling their original licenses and start using their backups instead. So, they penalised every user out here by taking away backups and what is worse, now PT license must be availabe at all times, compared to (pre-PT9) being enough to be there when PT launches.

Well, I have no interest in selling...and I'm fine with it being NFR, but I must be allowed the RIGHT to use my own software that I paid for. This shouldn't be asking me to surrender an existing license that doesn't exist.

Jeffro? Anyone else at AVID, can you sort this out and make this work for me? I may have paid for it a loooong time ago, but I did pay for it and deserve to continue using it.

Hey Sig - That's not an extra license, it's a backup. Your Pro Tools HD 7.3/7.4 Bundle is activated on your "Main" iLok 2, so you should be able to just move that over to your other iLok to run HD 7.x on your transfer system.
