Default Backup and rebuild of Win10 PT machine

Hi all

I have a PT Windows machine with Windows 10, but because it doesnt have the correct UEFI firmware layout on C: it can no longer do Windows Updates.
Its apparently because the format is MBR but should be GPT.

I have a lot of software on this machine and it takes me days to set one up from scratch, so i'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with some method for backing up whats on it, reformatting the C: drive to GPT, then putting it all back.

Is it even possible or am i stuck with having to rebuild from scratch manually? Any help or tips much appreciated!

Thanks
David

Search 'restore MBR partition to GPT' or there's this:

Scary, so make sure you have a good backup.

I believe Macrium Reflect can do this. Definitely not for the faint of heart. However, I've found Macrium Reflect to be quite reliable and, once you get the hang of it, easy to use.

So, the bios is set as UEFI, but the OS drive is formatted for mbr? I am curious as to how that happened.

There is no way to resolve this I know of. The formatting is contained in the image, so no imaging process would work (that I know of)

His problem would have to be the opposite of this I think. Its currently UEFI. If it were not UEFI (standard bios) and he is formatted as mbr, there would be no problem.

I don’t know exactly how it happened. Mobo is Gigabyte X99. It seems to be stuck sort of halfway into uefi. I’ll see if I can set the bios back to boot standard instead of uefi...also maybe a bios update may help...

I’ve never been able to find an answer that doesn’t involve reformatting. Looks like that’s the only option...
