Default BX440 Chipset to be phased out! Whassup Digi?

Given that Intel have discontinued the BX440 chipset which is part of Digi's recommended system requirement for running the 001 on a PC, what are we to do when the chips run out?

I want to upgrade my PC but was going to wait until after Christmas. Now I feel under pressure to beat the chip shortage.

Is there any word from Digi central on this issue?

Regards,

John

We all have to get over the 440BX "problem"..

I have used the Digi001 on a Dell and a Gateway PC. I kept the 1 Gigahertz Gateway. Both of these used an 815 chipset and I have had NO problems at all with this setup. The 815 chipset aslo supports ATA-100. What's not to like?

Thanx tacohand! That was exactly what wanted to know. I am buildind machine for 001 (just about to come) and I wanted to pick up some more modern chipset that BX.
And now somebody tell me:
is graphic built in 815E chipset compatible as well?
and
can I use 133MHz RAM?
These are not obvious questions.

Drastikpup, I admire your enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit but I'm in the UK.

Yep. I am in Poland. So, 815E works with 001 or not?

Will do drastikpup,

Maybe you could suggest a good motherboard for a PIII800. I need this to be available in the UK obviously!

I wondered about the the Abit BX133 Raid but have seen some adverse stuff on it in the PC configuration forum.

Thanks,

John

Here's my setup, it works great:

PIII 733MHz slot 370
Abit SE6 motherboard (Intel 815E chipset)
128MB SDRAM PC-133MHz
WD 30GB ATA100 (system)
Intel 30.7GB ATA100 (audio)
HP 9150 cd-writer

why all the fuss about the BX440 chipset?

Simply because the BX440 chipset is specified by Digidesign on their own requirements site for the 001.

However, there seems to be good feedback from people using the 815 chipset like yourself, so maybe there is a way forward!

John

I have had the 815E system for almost a month now and there has not been one single crash yet.

I have been using the asus p2bf that I have had for a while now and this thing rocks. I have less than $1000 in my system and after a litle tweeking i get 24 tracks 20-30 plugs

ASUS p2bf $100
celeron2 566Mhz overclocked to 850Mhz
@100Mhz FSB W/fan $100
196mb ram $150
wd 5400rpm ide (system)$100
maxtor 7200 (audio)$100
matrox g450 dual head 32mb vidio card $150
6x4x32 burner $80
Floppy $10
Case w/300 watt power supply $40
2 17" monitors $100 ea

Add digi001 and get some work done and quit bitchen:)~

DIGI 001 does work if ya read up and do your homework before going off the deep end. Some people are reporting succes with the 815 chips but if ya waunt a safe bet go for the 440bx on a ASUS board. If any one in the US needs me to build them one let me know!
