Unhappy Error Message on Install of PT 8.0.3 on W7

Hi-I have to reinstall my hard copy of ProTools 8.0.3 on Windows 7. It 'was' previously installed on Windows 7, but, my computer crashed and I had to purchase a brand new hard drive. I get an error message when I try to reinstall my copy (...the application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000006).

I have been reading about the updates needed so that PT8 will run on W7...I have downloaded the updates, but I am unable to install them since PT8 is not installed on my computer to begin with. I don't know what to do now...well, I guess I could purchase a new version...but, my copoy worked fine before my crash.

Thanks for any help/support ..!!

What USUALLY works for this is; install 8(or 8.0.3) and when the installer asks for the interface to be connected, DON'T. Just click on okay and the installer should finish. Then reboot and run the 8.0.5 updater, and DO connect the interface when the updater asks for it. If its a USB interface, just plug in into your chosen USB port. If its 002 or 003, I would connect the firewire with everything off, and just leave the 002/003 powered off until the updater asks for the interface(power it on, count to 5 and click okay). One last reboot and you should be good to open PT and type in your authorization code

Hello albee1952 - Thank you for your reply....

In response to your opening statement....What USUALLY works for this is; install 8(or 8.0.3) and when the installer asks for the interface to be connected, DON'T. Just click on okay and the installer should finish. , yes, I understand that process completely because I did just that when I first installed the program back in May 2010. However, this time around when I tried to reinstall, the program didn't even open and I got the error message, (...the application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000006). My Mbox 2 was not even plugged in. All I did was insert the PT 8 Install CD in the drive and clicked on exe.set up, and waited for it to install, like last time, but, instead I got that message...I really don't know what's going on...

On a related music note, I'll be visiting your myspace page soon!

Thank you again.

Hmmmmmm, 2 things come to mind. Have you performed all the system tweaks before running the installer? Is ALL the hardware the same(except for the system drive)? Are you right-clicking on the exe and chosing "run as admin"(okay, that's 3 things).

alright....4 things....have you tried the downloaded installer instead of the disk(in case its somehow damaged)?

Turn off any Anti Virus software while installing PT, it may be blocking the exe file from opening. Do the same again after a reboot to install updates.

Once you install it, go into your Anti Virus software and create a permission to 'Allow' PT to run without hindrance.

Hello allbee1952,

thank you for your reply to my question in message. Guess what happened? The original installation disk was damaged. A representative from Sweetwater sound contacted me and we began the process of troubleshooting the system. We covered just about everything that you had mentioned in your post. So, the rep sent me a new install disk and that resolved the problem!

Thank you so much for your help!

By the way, if I can pick your brain some more, I have posted a new thread under 'virtual instruments'. There is a virtual instrument called Real Guitar2L that I want to purchase, but according to the compatibility requirements, it seems to indicate that I need some kind of adapter, which translates to purchasing more software to make the VST plug-in work correctly.

Yeah, sorry I forgot about the batch of bad disks. I was coming back to toss that out for you but you should be all set now. That's a nice report for sweetwater and is a good reminder about how it can be worthwhile to spend a little more and buy new, and from a reputable dealer

Ditto.

Glad to see you are up & running now. I see your plugin question has been answered as well.
