Default Minimal MLCD CDR Controller?

The compatibility document for CDR units is clear enough, but what is the minimal controller card recommended for use with MLCD 2.2? (In a G4/450)

Will the Apple LVD2 suffice? I read of problems with the Adaptec 2940's, I don't want to empty my wallet for an ATTO.

I don't care about expandability at all, just want to burn CDs. Anybody got a $50 solution?

I'm in the same boat... Have a G4/400 sawtooth that I want to use my Yamaha CDR 400 with. I need a card just for burning CD's.
Seems ridiculous to spend that kind of money for the Atto. Digi says MLCD2.2 is supported on sawtooth G4's but they neglect to tell us what to use for our SCSI CD burners....

I caved. I got into the Mac thing on the theory that you pay more up front, futz less later on (as I have done BIG TIME with PCs).

I plunked for the ATTO/Plextor, $620 at buy.com.

I just hope the theory holds.

I'm looking at the Plextor 820/8220 and
adaptec 2906 ($50-60). Anyone using this
setup. At the apple store site, they offer
a scsi card option for $49. Sales rep didn't
know who made it.

Please Digi, give us some sort of response... I have a project that needs CD copies now! I'm not asking for complete assurance, just an educated guess re: Adaptec 2906, Orange...etc....

Tinnitus,

A couple of the engineers here are using Adaptec 2930s with their CD burners and all seems to be going well.

Orange Micro Ultra-SCSI. <$80.

Works on my Sawtooth with a Yamaha 4416.

I recently installed an Adaptec 2906 (about $50) in a friends G4/450 connected to a Yamaha 4416 and it works fine.

Orange Micro 930U didn't work with MLCD & Plextor 8220, I returned it.

Called Digi to gripe in stronger terms, THIS TIME a tech referred me to TMC, they got me the VHDCI68 to 50Centronics cable I needed for the Atto (that even Atto told me was not obtainable).

I'm in the same boat. The one where people
already spent nearly $500 on Masterlist,
bought a CDR, and just need something that
won't cost $300 to run it.

I think i'll try the Adaptec 2906, and work
my way up.
