Default Dual boot option

Hi There,

My significant other/vocalist has a Dell XPS M1530 (core 2 duo - T8300) that came loaded with Vista. We've been considering dumping Vista and reloading with XP Pro SP2 so as to load up PT and go mobile if need be. As I perused the web I ran across this whole idea of dual booting the machine with XP. I found a site that has all the drivers necessary for that machine with XP.

Seems easy yet too good to be true. I am thinking that with XP, we'd have only PT installed on that partition and if I'm correct, would isolate PT from any potential viruses and whatnot as it would still be an online machine. Is this correct, and has anyone done this or are doing it....or am I all wet? BTW: I'm running 7.3.1

Thanks, Dave

OK... I know there is alot of mention of dual boot around here, and have read quite a bit of. I'm just not finding a good "how/why to" link, espscially in regard to PT. I'm new to this idea and just want to make sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks again

well the infection is to the hdd not just the OS. bottom line is scan the entire drive regularly. when you are usin the PTLE partition make sure you shut down your ethernet or wireless connections. IOW disable them in device manager. that way there is NO WAY anyone has any chance of detectin' you

The PT sessions belong on your dedicated audio drive, NOT on the system drive.....

not sure of exactly their setup. one can never know how viruses will choose to infect and infiltrate. if it makes it onto ones' system on an online partition it could be written in a way to go to 'any' volume connected. best protection, of course is not have your DAW ever touch the internet regardless of partitioning. next best thing, if one is partitioned, then have the best 'realtime' AV you can find for the partition that does go online.

sw rec...just re-read your statement and you are right. PTLE should have its' own drive
