G4(pci graphics)
Does anyone know if ProTools HD will run on a G4 with PCI graphics. I am currently running a mix plus system but DIGI has only approved G4's with AGP graphics for HD. I am considering the upgrade and would like to know if I need a new computer. If anyone has any info, I would greatl appreciate it.
Thanks, Rippie |

Re: G4(pci graphics)
It's not officially qualified, but it should work pretty well.
In general, if you have a computer with a MIX system, you'll see as good or better results with an HD system. You may not be able to get to the absolute maximums with HD (e.g., 128 tracks at 48 KHz)using a non-AGP G4. The PCI video card creates extra PCI traffic that makes it harder for the Digi PCI cards to transfer data. But, the PCI interface (and engine code) on HD is much better than on MIX, so you should be able to get more than 64 tracks at 44.1/48 KHz. I just can't say for sure that you'll get to 128 tracks.
