Default Mbox 2 mini static

I have a serious problem. I use my mbox 2 mini w/ pro tools 8 in a dell notebook with windows vista. Worked fine the first 2 times. The 3rd time i connected the mbox there was a really bad loud static that will not go away at all. Static is present wether pro tools is open or not. If somebody could please help me by giving me some direction on what i should do i would really appreciate it. I have only had it for 3 months.
