HD Driver not load on Monterey external drive

Hi , i have a mac studio with monterey, avid chassis with one HDX card, protools 2023.3.

I've installed an external monterey system where I can't load the HD Driver.
Everything works fine with the internal system drive.
I've followed all the Avid (Best practices for installing and troubleshooting the Avid HD Driver on macOS)
When I try to manually open driver with the avid utility, I have this window:

The only thing that might be a problem is that I can’t validate the driver authorisation on install because it never shows it, even if I stay with the security pref open.

I can see the HDX card in PCIE and the DIGIDAL extension in the system.
All this is for every new Monterey I have installed on 2 different external SSD drives.
Any ideas ?

Jeez just wrote a para about trying with the prefs panel open... oops, glad I reread your post before posting. So good you know about the driver privilege alert popup not appearing.

Maybe it's possible here if you insitu upgraded your boot drive macOS you got the third party driver permission grandfathered. But why it's not letting you grant this for a third party driver on the external disk is not good.... and you've obvious disabled SIP etc. for it to work at all.

But I suspect the bug is real and known by Apple. See https://developer.apple.com/forums/t...ge=1#744733022 I was aware of this through the Fuse software community. Developers there have been having problems when booting from external drives and trying to load their Fuse drivers. Maybe Avid support is all on top of this with Apple, I have no idea.

Thank you for your reply, yes i've downgraded sip and the lower level don't do anything more.

Please do get in touch with Avid support, and see if they know what Apple is doing for a fix here. And if they don’t know about this please make sure they see the link I gave.

Hi! Just upgraded to M1 Studio Ultra, Ventura 13.6 and I have the same problem. Can't install the ProTools HD driver on an external system SSD.
Works on the internal drive. Although the install procedure wasn't exactly straightforward....:-



I created a case in AVID support, they're on it, but just wanted to check if any of you found a solution so far?

I have no idea if that will help or not but please don't do this echo password stuff. This is bad infosec behavior and could result in your plain text password being stored in numerous log and history files etc. Use sudo conventionally and let it ask you for a password.
