User tips for D command & D control

Most users know that you can map plug in parameters down to faders in custom plug in editing mode, but you can also map switched functions to the mute buttons as well. Here's how;

1. Go into custom plug in editing mode for a plug in
2. Turn on map mode
3. Press the select button above the fader you want to map to
4. Press the BMP button for the switched function to map (you can use the switch info button in the channel strip master section to see what is what)

The selected switch is now mapped to the mute button on the channel seperately from the fader.

Very cool one that ... I can't remember seeing that one mentioned in the manual. Or in one of the 'what's new ...' docs.

Maybe you have all talked about this already, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

I have noticed that many studios clean their consoles with a brush, or a duster. While this is good at moving the dust around, I recommend the Swiffer. You can get them at any grocery store, and they work great!

And of course you all know about using the ArmorAll wipes to clean and extend the lifespan of the rubber palm rest.

ever wanted to control levels, mutes and meter of 48 Channels without nudging. And this on a standard 16 channel d-control!
this is the way:

1. group 48 channels in 8 groups. beginning with 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 etc. be sure, that the controls (volume, mute etc.) are not linked
2. create 8 vca´s and link them with this 8 groups
3. creat a custom groups with this 8 vca
4. hide the vca´s in edit window. be sure to activate show hidden trackss on d-control
5. now you can jump to your cusstom group and you will have 48 encoders, where you can control levels, mute and metering

of course vca´s are not thought to work in this way, but it is nice to have (with a small icon) complete level control on 1/8 square meter

Hi everyone:

This site is awesome! Your tips are really good, but _I am writting because I have a BIG problem (there`s another forum but I haven´t got any good solution). I am a new user of the ICON (D command) and is working perfectly...almost perfectly, beacuse my faders are not moving at all!!! I can`t control my faders from the faders section in the D Command, the only way I can manipulate them is with the virtual pots (using the flip buttom) or in the software itself. I am from Colombia, and the supporting team sucks!!! they don`t have a clue about anything regarding equipment, that`s why I am writting to you guys.

I hope that someone have the answer.

First off ... glad you like the thread. But at the same time if this is going to become a discussion of several posts it might be better to give it a thread of it's own. So maybe you can post a new thread if the following doesn't help :

A couple of things to check before we continue : You say the're no fader movement right ?

A few Q's : (please reply in a new thread)

- when you say NO fader movement ... can you be more specific ? Are the faders not moving during the playback of a mix that has volume automation in it ? Or is there absolutely NO control whatsoever from the faders ?

- If there's no fader control / response whatsoever ... did you check the utility pages and run the fader tests ? Did you reset them from the utility pages ?

- When you fire up the unit ... do the faders move at all or do they stay at - inf (all the way down) all the time ?

- One thing that came to mind is this (I doubt it has anything to do with it but fwiw There's and operation pref which allows you to turn off the fader movement during playback.

- When you say 'I can't control the faders' ... do you mean you can't control the volume ? Theres a load of things that you can control from the faders but in your post you mention that you can control them from the rotaries (flip) and from the soft ... I presume you mean you can control the volume like that. So how about when you control the volume in the soft .... does the corresponding fader on the controller move in sync with the movements you make in the soft ?

Things like that need to be clear in order to determine or guess what exactly is wrong. It can be a pref setting as well as a broken unit from what I read in your post.

Explain why we lose all editing functions when we go in to jog mode.

Do you think this will change in future releases?
