Default Using 003 factory as a control surface

Hi. I have been using the 003 factory for the past 5 years and have just upgraded to a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre with thunderbolt. Am I able to use the desk of the 003 factory to control the new interface? If so, how do I connect it?

You can't. 003 control surface works only when it is used as the Pro Tools audio interface.

I had a similar situation with a MOTU Traveler, I ended up connecting them via ADAT and using 003 as my PT interface and MOTU for all analog inputs / outputs / monitoring etc. It actually worked pretty well like this.

Thanks for that - I feared it may be the case. I guess I'll just buy a cheap control surface (like the single fader Personus). Im still far more intuitive with a fader and a rotary knob than a mouse. Appreciate the info.

Totally 1000% Wrong...I'm using one right now. Clarett 8pre via thunderbolt, 003 Factory via FireWire, Clarett as master, and aggregate input with the 2. Every single function works except you can't assign the punch-in pedal. Occasionally you have to resell T the input to 003 then back to aggregate if it doesn't light up the 003. I think unless you select Thunderbolt you may be "limited" to 96k but I've only had it less than a day so haven't explored the possibilities.
Please don't spread stories unless you absolutely know you're right. I almost sold the 003 after reading people say it wouldn't work. It is such a great control surface for PT.

Aggregate is an option for Mac users. Windows users are SOL I nagged Avid for a year to do a firmware update for the 003 to make it a controller so I could use it with my HD/Native setup.......

All the IO on the 003 works as well as the control surface functions?

You're able to use all of the control surface functions of the 003 without the 003 being the main engine through which the Avid audio driver (and Pro Tools) is running? How? Is this only possible with a Thunderbolt audio interface? Even with setting up an aggregate audio device, it's only the I/O that I've ever been able to get to work on the 003 when it's not being used as the main engine.

Edit: By the way, that was your first post, after almost 18 years of lurking? That's impressive, sir!
