'Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program'
I can't connect my digi 002 rack when pro tools is running and I can't open pro tools when my digi 002 rack is connected. it will just read 'Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program' and then close down. Any suggestions?

Re: 'Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program'
NEVER connect the 002 with things powered on(its a great way to fry the firewire board in the 002). Make all connections with everything powered off. Turn the 002 on either before, or at the same time(power strip) as the computer. If you get a message that the hardware is in use by another program, you will need to make some system setting changes. This is why I don't ever let the computer "use" the 002/003 for anything but Pro Tools. If you need to listen to non-PT sounds thru the same studio monitors, run the computer audio out to the Alt inputs of the 002/003, or use a monitor/source selector like the Presonus Central Station(what I use and like plenty), Mackie Big Knob or Samson C-Control(cheap but functional).

Re: 'Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program'
when i say "connected" i mean connected through the digi core audio driver. Not plugging the firewire cable in and out as i please. So what system preferences would I need to change to make this happen? I am not running any other programs except the digi core audio driver and PT8. Like I said, the DCAD will not "connect" my 002 with my G5 when i have PT8 open. It reads "Not Connected(HW in use)"

Re: 'Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program'
You should read the Core Audio Usage Guide, as it clearly indicates that the 002 is single-client only - meaning only one application can be using it at a time. In this case, if Pro Tools is using the hardware, you can't use it for Core Audio and vice versa. Make sure to quit the Core Audio Manager before launching Pro Tools.
