Default Very annoyed!

Does anyone else have this problem- When creating and saving a session template, you have to lock it in order for it to act as a session template! Also when you get ready to open a template that you have saved, it automatically creates a copy, and it keeps making copies even though you erase them! Is this a bug that Digidesign is aware of. I mean it is so annoying, that it almost makes me want to stop using session templates.

when you save as a session template, after having saved, close session, and then view the coresponding session in the finder- highlight it, click "command i" to get info, and then in the info window that opens, click on "make stationery pad" and close window - you will see that the icon has changed from the Digi icon too that of a tape spool . This is now a "Session Template", and can be used as a starting point for however you like your different sessions to be set up -ie one template for a 2 channel V/O session, to perhaps a4 channel template for acoustic gtr, voice etc, up to a full 24 or more channels for a full band etc.
THis is a really handy way to quickly set up sessions that are tailored to the way in which you prefer to work.

Does this help ??

To add to the above, when you want to open a session template you should drag and drop it over the Pro Tools icon in the Dock - it will open and ask you where you want to save the newly created session based on the session template.
