Default What Computer are you using?

Thinking of getting an Eleven rack + PT9. This will be my only interface, I do mostly pop/rock for my own enjoyment. Probalby do all ITB with EZ Drummer and any PT's VI's. Wondering what computer everyone that is using. Thinking of either iMac i3 3.06 W external 500GB GlyphDrive Approx. $1400 or I could probably build/ buy ADK Computer i5 760 w/ 2-%500GB drives & 22" Screen Approx $1400. Just wondering how these compare, if anyone is runng these systems & how they are working, and or any other thoughts about running this setup for what I want to do?

Thanks Everyone,
Jeff

I use a Macbook with my 11r, 2gb RAM...works perfectly. I use EZdrummer/Superior Drummer on a regular basis with no issues, along with a few other VI's.

Why buy PT9 if 11r is going to be your only interface?

Im using a 2.66 Mac Pro with 6GB of ram. Works awesome with PT9, runs Superior Drummer like a champ too.

Keeping with the theme, I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.53 Ghz, 4GB RAM, and a LaCie 500GB FW800 HD. Works perfectly and I am glad to say I haven't had a single hitch with this setup.

my spec are in my sig.

I would skip the i5 and go right for an i7 9xx series cpu.

Save your money and build it yourself. Forget the Glyph, you are paying for the name, just get an external case and put a WD caviar black in it, and hook it up via E-Sata if you need an external drive. I would put at least 3 internal HDD's in the PC. 1 for OS, 1 for Recording to, and One for Sample Libraries.

Then pick up some 24" (23.5) Asus monitors, they are great and you can find them for around $150 now. Once you get a 2 monitor set up, you wont go back. When I build my next PC im going to 3 or 4 screens.

Thanks Guys! Wow, all Macs so far. Why PT9? Just to start out with the most current version i guess, ADC?, I don't know? Derker, 2 gig ram? What processor? How big of sessions can you run? Seems like the iMac i3 3.06 w/ 4GB ram should do fine, right?

Any PC guys with say an i5 750/760 or older care to chime in? What can I expect?

Thanks again!

Thanks Benoni, correct me if I'm wrong but I've priced Newegg and seems that an i7 9xxx would be outa my price range $1500 w/monitor. Also I have never built a PC before and really don't want a big hassle.

Hey man, my macbook is a couple years old. It's a 2.13 GHz C2D, with 800 MHz DDR2. I don't usually have ridiculously huge sessions, before I got my 11r most of my sessions consisted of 5-6 guitar tracks and 2-3 bass tracks, each with its own amp sim (Eleven free or Softube VAR/MAR/BAR) and various EQ/dynamics, Superior Drummer with stemmed tracks for mono kick/snare and stereo toms/overheads each with their own EQ/dynamics/etc. Sometimes I'll use NI Battery for some sample playback, and usually some plugins on the master to bring things up to level and even things out.

I do get the odd buffer errors but once I up the buffer past 512 it goes away. I also run Superior Drummer in cache mode to keep from using more RAM than I really need. I've had a few crashes and a few sessions get corrupted (backup folder is crucial!), but who hasn't?

I've got a 2.4 ghz c2d MacBook pro. Love it. Fwiw a core i3 will show as 2 procs. I think the i5 as 4, but the quad i7 will show as 8. Personally I would spring for the i7 also. I'd also suggest a bit more than 4 gb of ram. But don't upgrade from apple. Buy it after market. If you're using vi's you'll want the extra cores and ram. Esp if you're thinking 3rd party vi's.
